The MIB win earned us a 3rd seed in the playoffs ... and an opportunity to play the 4th seeded Vancouver Island Selects team. We beat this team earlier in the tournament 10-3. It wasn't so easy the second time around. We had just finished the MIB game with no rest and Vancouver Island was fresh. They rattled off 5 unanswered goals right from the start. We were never able to completely recover, even with two goals apiece for Hoch and Goddin and single goals from Winter and Swanson. LO lost 8-6. Pritchard was selected as the game MVP.
The Vancouver loss put us in the position of fighting for a spot in the Bronze medal game. In order to earn that spot we only had to beat Mercer Island/Bellevue ... who we had just beaten 8-4 earlier in the day. That shouldn't be any problem. It was a problem. MIB came out to win and with a lot of little mistakes keeping us off balance, MIB won 10-6, eliminating us from the tournament. Goddin had a pair of goals while Swanson, Higgins, Winter and Damon all had singles. Kritschgau was the MVP. Everyone was truly disappointed with the outcome of the game. We felt like when our play was at it's best we were the second best team at the tournament, but we didn't deliver that level of play when it was needed. The U15 Championship game on Friday will be contested by Burnaby Mountain Selects and Australia's Kangas team. The Kangas team we beat 9-4 in three quarters of play of Wednesday, only to lose in the 4th quarter. The Bronze medal game will be played by Vancouver and Mercer Island/Bellevue, both teams we defeated earlier in the tournament. Our experience here has proven that anything can happen in lacrosse!
Although goals are certainly only one measure of what it takes ... here's an unofficial U15 tournament summary of goals.
