LO Grabs Silver
In a tough match with Mimico, LO finished up 13-11.
Overheard after the game "Wish we could have that first quarter back". LO started slow and watched Mimico pull ahead 4-0 in the first quarter. We went into the 3rd quarter behind by one 6-5.
We chased them pulling up even twice. In the end, Mimico's experience level proved the decisive as the Canadians have played together as a team for some time. This was the LO team's 5th game together.

A knock on the door ...
Last night the boys in Flat 10 got a knock on the door.
"Whose there?"
"Someone from Mimico." (Mimico is the team we are playing in the championship today)
A stunned Peter Baumann had no idea what a player from Mimico would want. Was this some kind of a joke?
"What do you want?" Peter asked.
"Is Mike Walsh there?"
Mike was in his room sleeping but Peter knew this was an opportunity Mike couldn't miss.
"Mike, there is someone at the door who want you."
"Huh? No man. You're lying." Mike grunted and rolled over to go back to sleep. But Peter was persistant and "took a whole minute" to convince Mike that there was someone at the door. When Mike rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and saw who was really at the door he woke up right away.
That someone at the door turned out to be Team Canada's goalie, Chris Sanderson.
Chris took the time out of his schedule to stop by and say hello to a fellow goalie.
Check out the link above to find out more about Chris. What a wonderful display of sportsmanship and empathy for the lonely place in between the pipes.
This came about due to a sideline conversation I had with George, a Dad coach from Mimico at yesterday's LO/England game. We spoke for the better part of the quarter about coaching your own son, the differences in box and field and the generally bright prospects these young men have in front of them. Thanks George. Looking forward to this afternoon's game. You're a gentleman and it will be a privilege to play your team.
This the better part of sports, the proximity to greatness. The proximity to the greatness in others and in yourself.

Team dinner + US Army Lax
Had a great dinner last night. Paige arranged a room at a hotel a block away from the playing fields. Coincidentally, US Lacrosse was having dinner there as well.
Joe Alberici, Head Coach of US Army Lax at WestPoint stopped in and gave a memorable speech.

- Grades are #1, Lax skills alone won't get you in
- Make good choices, a history of booze and drugs will disqualify you
- Give 100%, 100% of the time. 110% doesn't exist, but you need give 100 x 100
Good Sportsmanship
Witnessed a wonderful display of sportsmanship yesterday.
Donnie, the member of the English team who collided with Hoover yesterday, sought out Beth Sam's mom. In a moving moment, he described haltingly that it was an accident, that he would never deliberately look to hurt someone.
Hats off to Donnie. That took guts to walk up to an opponent's mom and reach out and re-assure her. Well done.
