We knew the U15 game against Australia would be challenging. They were undefeated after beating MIB (Mercer Island/Bellevue) 13-5 yesterday and Vancouver Island Selects this morning. The LO boys came out like a house of fire with Swanson drawing first blood within a few minutes. By halftime the LO U15 team led 5-3 with goals from Swanson, Winter, Hoch, Seashore and Dales. The beginning of the third quarter was looking like a run away with 3 consecutive goals from Hoch ... making the score 8-3. The Aussies scored once and Goddin scored to end the third quarter 9-4. Unfortunately, in the fourth quarter Lake Oswego was done scoring, but the Aussies weren't. They reeled off 6 unanswered goals to defeat a shocked LO team 10-9 in the final seconds of the game. With 4 of our 9 goals Michael Hoch was the obvious MVP for LO.
This loss, while tragic, doesn't dramatically hurt LO's prospects in the playoffs. We play MIB in our final pool game tomorrow morning at 10:30am. We enter the playoffs with a lower seed because of the Australia loss, but we're capable of beating our playoff opponents. In fact, if we beat MIB, we'll play Vancouver Island Selects in the first round of the playoffs. We beat them yesterday in pool play 10-3. Tomorrow will be a long day, probably with three games, but we're capable of winning all three.
